Final Impressions of MSC Seascape
Published Tuesday, March 10th 2026Final Impressions of MSC Seascape
The second half of the week aboard MSC Seascape was even better than the first. As the seminar schedule eased up a bit, I had more time to explore the ship, experience additional dining venues, and take in more of the onboard activities. All of that only strengthened my overall positive impression of the MSC experience.
Dining Experiences
During the second part of the cruise, I had the opportunity to try three of the ship’s specialty dining venues: Butcher’s Cut, Ocean Cay, and Hola! Tacos & Cantina. MSC’s specialty dining packages are very reasonably priced and absolutely worth considering. I made my reservations once onboard, though we were told during our training that pre-cruise dining reservations will soon be available, which will make planning even easier.
Butcher’s Cut
Butcher’s Cut offers an elevated steakhouse experience with wonderful service, a lovely atmosphere, and excellent food. From start to finish, it was my favorite dining experience onboard. I dined there on Elegant Night, so the atmosphere matched the evening perfectly. Since I was dining solo, service was especially attentive and prompt.
Ocean Cay
Ocean Cay is MSC’s seafood-focused specialty restaurant. The portions were generous, the service was good, and the dishes were flavorful. While the menu leans heavily toward seafood, there are still a few options available for those who prefer something else.
Hola! Tacos & Cantina
Hola! Tacos is a fun, informal dining option with a small but well-curated menu available for both lunch and dinner. Guests can either include it in a specialty dining package or order à la carte. It also offers breakfast with a no-additional-cost à la carte menu. The food was flavorful and portions were satisfying, making it a great casual dining choice.
Main Dining Room
The Main Dining Room overall was good, though it could feel a bit chaotic when the doors first opened. The food was classic cruise fare, with Italian night and lobster night being particular highlights. Service throughout the week was excellent.
Marketplace Buffet
The buffet has a slightly different layout than most cruise lines, but seating is plentiful and the offerings are somewhat European-inspired, which I personally enjoyed. The lunch salad bar had very nice selections, and the fruit station was consistently fresh and well stocked. Dessert options felt a little limited, but overall the buffet was a solid choice for breakfast or lunch.
Room Service
MSC offers a 24-hour room service menu with standard options. Orders can be accessed through the app or by scanning the QR code in the cabin, though orders must be called in unless it’s breakfast.
For breakfast, guests can choose a complimentary continental option or order an American breakfast à la carte. I ordered coffee each morning by hanging the order card outside the door the night before, and it was always delivered on time with excellent service.
Entertainment and Activities
The cruise director, Ryan Rose, is very engaging, and the activity schedule was consistently full. There were often multiple events happening at the same time, giving guests plenty of options depending on their interests.
I attended two theater shows during the week, both musical-style productions. Because of my late dining schedule, I missed a couple of the other shows. MSC also offers a wide variety of evening entertainment, including dueling pianos, comedians, cabaret performances, themed parties, and live music throughout the ship.
While I’m not much of a night owl, many colleagues in our group attended events like the White Party, Silent Disco, and cabaret performances, and they shared lots of photos and stories about how much fun those events were.
Casino and Shopping
The casino is quite large with a good mix of slot machines and table games. Several members of our group even had a bit of luck at the slots.
Shopping onboard is extensive, with options ranging from fine jewelry and designer handbags to a large duty-free shop, logo merchandise, and even a chocolate boutique. Prices were comparable to what you would see on other cruise lines, though the overall inventory felt more extensive. I even purchased my first Effy jewelry piece, which was very well priced.
Public Spaces
MSC Seascape is a beautiful ship with modern design and touches of European elegance. There are numerous public spaces designed for lounging, socializing, and enjoying the ocean views.
The ship features a main atrium midship and a smaller forward atrium, along with a variety of bars and lounges suited to different moods and preferences.
Pool areas include:
-
An adults-only pool aft
-
The Mariner Pool on Deck 18, which features a large movie screen
-
Numerous hot tubs located throughout the ship, including some great ones on Deck 8
There are also two exclusive areas:
-
Top 19 for Aurea guests
-
Yacht Club for guests booked into MSC’s ship-within-a-ship luxury experience
I became a big fan of Top 19, which I used almost daily after finishing work for the day. It was peaceful, uncrowded, and offered cabanas, loungers, hot tubs, and a bar exclusively for Aurea guests.
Another favorite spot was The Loft, which became my go-to workspace. It has an excellent coffee bar and offers a light continental breakfast in the mornings—perfect for grabbing a quick bite and a great cup of coffee.
The Champagne Bar was also a favorite gathering spot for our group thanks to its central location and great service.
Disembarkation
Disembarkation was one of the easiest I’ve ever experienced.
Thanks to the Aurea benefits, I was assigned Group 8 and was called to disembark around 8:20 a.m. The process was extremely efficient, and I was out of the terminal by 8:45 a.m. Facial recognition technology made the process incredibly smooth. Even with rain that morning, I was back to my car in less than two minutes.
A Few Cons
While my experience overall was very positive, there were two areas where MSC could improve.
The first is the limited snack options between restaurant hours. For me personally, this wasn’t a major issue, but travelers who prefer flexible dining times—or families with children—may find it noticeable since other cruise lines often have grab-and-go snack options available throughout the day.
The second is the size and storage configuration of the stateroom. The bed itself was extremely comfortable with soft sheets and pillows, and traveling solo made the space perfectly manageable. However, the hanging closet space was limited and located very close to the bed. For two travelers who are not sharing a bed configuration, the space could feel tight.
The extended balcony was quite large, which was wonderful for relaxing in the sun with a book. The only drawback was that it was mostly uncovered, meaning balconies above had a direct view down, and the view below included the restaurant awnings.
Would I Recommend MSC?
Absolutely.
MSC offers a beautiful cruise product at a strong value, and I would happily sail MSC Seascape again for the ship experience alone.
For clients considering MSC, I would generally recommend booking at least the Fantastica experience, though I highly suggest exploring the Aurea or Yacht Club options for the added benefits and elevated experience.
With beautiful ships, attentive service, and itineraries around the world, MSC is a strong option for many travelers.
And with their continued commitment to sailing from Galveston, MSC is poised to become a major contemporary cruise option for our region. We look forward to introducing more of our clients to this cruise line in the years ahead.
