If you're like me, this year has put a serious damper on your travel plans! But don't let current events deter you completely from exploring near to home - some of the best weekend getaways happen when you stay close to home and seek out the not so common places to visit.

Typically, we take two bigger trips a year. Usually one to the mountains in Arkansas in Spring or Fall and in late Summer/early Fall, a nice long cruise to the Caribbean. Well, we all know that the latter wasn't happening and the Arkansas plans were deterred first by COVID and then by back to back hurricanes! But we still wanted to do a small trip while we could so we ventured to the Easter part of Louisiana over the past weekend (November 6-8, 2020) and had a lovely, quick getaway!

For months, I've been seeing friend's post about an eclectic restaurant in Arnaudville, LA called Little Big Cup and I was dying to try it. It looked lovely from the pictures and nobody had anything but praises to sing about the food. I made reservations for the Holiday Inn Express in Breaux Bridge and off we went late Friday afternoon. The Holiday Inn was a pleasant surprise - clean with obvious safety/health protocols in place, service was good, free breakfast, and a great location. And had warm cookies and coffee in the lobby when we arrived. Although there is a great Mexican restaurant right next door to the hotel called La Ramba, we opted to head to Poche's Meat Market a few miles away based on a recommendation from a family member.

Poche's is a rustic diner/meat market that smells amazing the minute you walk in and take a deep breath - the scents of boudin, cracklings, and other Cajun specialties wafted out to meet us. We were seated quickly and ordered our dinner. I had a fish and shrimp dinner and hubby had fish, shrimp, and crawfish etouffe. All were delicious but the etouffe was definitely the best item on the table!

Our reservation at Little Big Cup (yes - make a reservation! Very easy to do - http://littlebigcup.com/) was for noon so had a little extra time in the morning to meander through another little treasure we discovered right next door to the hotel - Louisiana Marketshops @115 - which is 3000 sq ft of art, gifts, and other Louisiana unique items. We found a couple Learn Cajun books and some other art pieces but could have easily stayed a bit longer to explore all the wonderful pieces.

Driving through Arnaudville on the way to Little Big Cup, you will see stunning homes that are obviously from older days and exude southern charm. Parking for the restaurant is tricky and we had to go around the block a couple of times but it was so worth it! Little Big Cup did not disappoint! Although it was raining and we couldn't sit on the lower terrace as planned, we enjoyed a delicious brunch on the upper terrace. The Blood Orange Mimosa was perfect and the Creme Brulee French Toast was divine! Everything was good and we really want to return to try one of the other meal services and a la carte. It's not a large place and from the outside, you don't know what to expect but the inside/terrace is full of antique pottery, lush plants, and a very classical feel.
